What is BUDS?
BUDS is a program where elementary school youth are matched with an adult mentor.  Mentors meet with their BUD once a week and take part in activities like tutoring, cooking, playing games, and just hanging out.  The mentor and child meet at Howe Neighborhood Resource Center at a designated time each week, making this a center-based program instead of one in which meetings occur off site without program staff supervision.

Why BUDS?
Research has shown that children who stay actively engaged with an adult mentor for 9 months are positively affected both academically and socially.  BUDS is meant to help children grow and develop in the best possible way they can.  Having an adult mentor (who is not a parent or even related to them) can be a powerful force!

Who is BUDS for?
BUDS is for elementary aged youths who could benefit by having an older role model involved in their lives.

How do we get involved?
If you would like to get your child involved in BUDS, please contact Sarah Burg at 448-7340 ext. 2.
