We can make sure you find a volunteer experience that is right for you.

You can also follow the steps below to get the process started:

Step 1:
Fill out the Volunteer Application by clicking HERE

Step 2:
Arrange a meeting or phone conversation with an HNFRC staff member by calling Martha Spice at 448.7340 ext. 4.

Step 3:
Fill out and pass the background check form (if over the age of 18).

Step 4:
Unless special training is required, we will contact you about getting started!

THANK YOU!
For those of you who have volunteered with us before (be it once or several times) THANK YOU!  Volunteers are the only way we continue to be able to provide these programs and services to the community.  We couldn't do it without you!
Playgroup Helper
Description:  Aid our Parent Educator with our weekly playgroup for toddlers and their parents.  Tasks would include: help set up and cleanup activities, play with children and engage with families, help transition from activity to activity
Dates:  Help needed each Friday
Times:  9:00am-11:30am (playgroup runs from 9:30-11am)

Childcare Help
Description: In conjunction with many of our adult education programs, we offer FREE childcare to parents and caregivers.  Children are generally between the ages of 6 months and 5 years old.  Childcare helpers aid staff members and are never the sole childcare staff.  Tasks would include: playing with children while supervising and maintaining their safety, helping staff with feeding, & diapering children, cleaning up after activities

Working with Elementary Children
Check back for school-year volunteer opportunities working with elementary students.
Working with Adults and Supporting Administrative Needs
Administrative Office Support
Description:  Many of our programs and activities involve simple (yet time consuming) office tasks.  It would be of great help to staff to have support in this area.  Tasks may include: copying, collating, putting together mailings or folders, other duties as needed
Dates: Flexible based on your schedule
Times: During business hours Monday-Friday 8am-4pm

Light Cleaning Help
Description:  The resource center could certainly benefit from light cleaning support.  Duties would include: washing toys and surfaces in the Early Childhood Learning Center, washing windows, dusting, organizing and cataloguing books, vacuuming, and other duties as assigned
Dates: Flexible based on your schedule
Times: During business hours Monday-Friday 8am-4pm

Senior Bingo Meal Preparation
Description:  Once a week our kitchen is home to “Senior Bingo”. Seniors (ages 55+) can come for a light meal, social interaction, and a few games of BINGO.  We are always looking for volunteers to help us out by providing light meals to feed 15-20 seniors.  These meals can be cooked at your home or in our kitchen and are typically frozen and used as needed or delivered/cooked fresh the day of senior BINGO (it is your choice).
Dates:  Senior BINGO occurs each Thursday
Times: Noon-2pm (meal served at noon)
  • Some positions have age requirements.  Contact us to find out.
  • Anyone over the age of 18 who will be working with children is required to undergo a background check.
  • Certain positions require a longer term commitment.  Talk to an HNFRC staff member for more information.
  • Certain positions may also require additional training prior to beginning your service.  Talk to the staff for more information.
Group Service:
Looking for a group service project?  Howe Neighborhood Family Resource Center has hosted groups from 5-20 for various service projects around the resource center.  If you are looking for an organization for your group to get involved with (either for one time service or for a longer period of time) we can find something for you!

Special Events Help
Family Fun Night Helper

Date: Friday, February 10
Time: 4:45-6:45 pm (event runs from 5-6:30 pm)

Help out at our Family Fun Night on Friday, February 10!  This free Valentine's Day-themed event will feature a meal for families, arts and crafts, music and movement, and story time.  We are seeking volunteers to serve the meal, assist with crafts, and help with clean up.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact Martha Spice at 448.7340 ext. 4.
